Arnica is one of the most widely used homoeopathic remedies. I routinely prescribe it for my human patients before and after operations and dental work, to help speed recovery. It's equally important to remember to use it to help your pet to recover from surgery.
A typical protocol is as follows. The day before the operation give one Arnica 30c as a dose three times a day. On the day of the operation, to calm the animal and to help reduce bleeding - give one Phosphorus 30c before the operation, and repeat if necessary straight after surgery. Follow this an hour or so later (or instead of the second dose of phosphorus if not required) with one Arnica 30c, and repeat hourly for a further two doses. H.G. Wolff (Master of Veterinary Science), suggests that you continue to give Arnica three times daily for the next three days "to prevent complications, relieve pain and assist circulation".
You can order Arnica and Phosphorus individually, or better still order one of our superb Homeopathy Kits from only £32-95 for 24 remedies (each kit contains a free instruction booklet), and be prepared to treat your pet for a wide range of health issues - keeping them healthy and saving you money!

Some things to do at home if you pet is in pain.
One of the more common causes of pain is arthritis- especially in middle aged and older dogs.
Some useful and safe supplements for arthritis include: essential fatty acids, glucosamine and MSM.
Symptoms of pain
Our pets have signs and symptoms of pain much in the way that we do, but frequently this pain is unrecognized, not diagnosed, and therefore not treated.
Some dogs may be reluctant to move, to jump up, or have difficulty getting up after lying down.
They may eat or drink less, tremble, be generally depressed, or pant more.
Obvious signs of pain are lameness, pain on pressure to a specific area of their body, increased heart rate and breathing, and barking/whimpering.
Some dogs have strictly behavioral changes, such as being more aggressive and not responding positively to being stroked and groomed.
What you can do
If you suspect that your pet is in pain, what can you do?
Clearly a diagnosis of the cause of the pain is best, and this means you performing a basic examination of your pet, or visiting your vet.
If your dog has a chronic condition, e.g. arthritis, then try some of the following pet health supplements and/or treatments, before using expensive, strong, conventional veterinary drugs.
Glucosamine
Glucosamine hydrochloride is the most important supplement to add to your dog’s diet. The dose is 100 mg once daily per 10 lbs of body weight. It helps to rebuild the cartilage and delay further cartilage breakdown, appearing to have some anti-inflammatory properties.
MSM is a natural substance which provides building blocks for many tissues, especially those highest in protein, such as muscles, enzymes, red blood cells, skin and hair. As a supplement, it may help maintain a healthy, youthful dog, with supple joints and an excellent skin and coat.
Essential Fatty Acids
The use of NSAID medications is a well-established therapy for both acute and chronic nonspecific pain, but complications, including gastric ulcers, bleeding, and even deaths, are associated with their use.
An alternative treatment with fewer side effects that also reduces the inflammatory response and thereby reduces pain is the omega 3 EFAs (essential fatty acids) found in flax oil and fish oil.
Standard anti-inflammatory dose being 250-1000mg per 10lbs daily
Homeopathics
Homeopathic remedies can be very effective for pain relief in your pet, and even more importantly come with no side effects.
Arnica is used for trauma, sudden pain, including back pain, such as prolapsing discs and spondylosis. The dose being one 30C capsule per every 1-2 hours.
Check out these 4 key substances for natural pain control. Glucosamine , Arnica , MSM , essential fatty acids for dogs and cats.

The hay-fever season is starting now as the trees blossom and Spring flowers come into bloom.Whilst humans suffer with streaming eyes and sneezing, dogs can suffer an allergic reaction to pollen too and like humans they can be susceptible to "hayfever". However a dog will be more likely to show the reaction to the pollen in its skin. The signs of discomfort; itching, head-shaking and pulling at their fur are typical reactions to pollen allergy. Most dogs will show these symptoms early on in Spring, earlier than their owners, because they are much more sensitive to pollen from trees than they are to grass pollen. March is when the trees start to produce pollen, so we should be acting right now to treat our dogs. Fish oils with omega 6 and omega 3 are very useful supplements to soothe the skin and will help lower the sensitivity and irritation of the skin. We also have homeopathic remedies such a Nux Vom and Sulphur which are effective treatments.

The Schmallenberg virus, BSV is devastating flocks in southern Britain. We have in the past strongly recommended all garlic preparations as being useful to keep midges and fleas away from stock or pets but we are now strongly convinced of a more widespread use of it. Buy liquid garlic and Garlic Capsules now or read our full article for more information.

The BBC have just reported a worrying increase in the numbers of people in this country developing vitamin D deficiency and Rickets. We have been asked if the same thing is happening in the dog population. Our reply matches that of any good vet , in that good quality commercial dog food, sunshine, dairy products and fish oil capsules.are all good sources of this vitamin. It would be difficult for the pet parent to either over- or underdose their dog by feeding them a standard diet and providing them with some daily exposure to the sun; however, the potential for toxicity or deficiency exists so be sure to keep within the guidelines for optimal health. Check our site and the good veterinarian advice we give and remember prevention is easier than cure.
If your dog is low in vitimins (including vitimin D), or their immune system is under-functioning, then we strongly recommend True Food® multi-nutrient supplement for dogs. Designed with the help of consultant vet Nick Thompson BSc.(Hons), BVM&S, VetMFHom, MRCVS, and recommended for all dogs, whether they’re fed on raw or processed food, SuperDog Ultimate Nutrition provides a total of 45 nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, amino acids and not less than 5mg Beta Glucans per gram of tablet. Beta Glucans support white cell production and immunity. To buy now at the special offer price of £11.95 just click here.

Today we heard that people are reputed to be taking record numbers of vitamins and supplements in preference to dieting sensibly. We can only say that with soaring vets bills and the high cost for veterinary advice our customers feel their pets needs are satisfied by the products they regularly obtain on our site. From what I hear, most pets are also getting a good diet too, but owners seem to be choosing to support their animals' immune systems in the New Year; so its prevention rather than cure at the moment. We wish all our supporters a Happy and Healthy New Year.
